The Early Years Learning Campus at the Kalkallo CommunityCentre provides early years learning services by Hume City Council for the rapidly growing northern corridor of this municipality. The high demand for this service in the fledgling community resulted in the integration of a pre-fabricated class room being integrated into the site prior to the ‘bricks and mortar’ community hub build and an additional pre-fab added during construction. The completed Early Years Learning Campus provides a total of 2no.early years rooms as part of the community hub build to accommodate 33 children in each in addition to the 66 children accommodated in the pre-fabricated rooms.
The campus approach to this facility allowed was built around a central nature- based play space that the various learning spaces were built around. This approach permitted the uninterrupted provision of early years services at this site for the duration of the build and the establishment of community programs for young families prior to the Community Centre build.
The Early Years Learning Campus is integrated within the Kalkallo Community Hub and provide a comprehensive range of family services and community programmes in support of the learning environments. This includes consulting suites providing maternal and child health, allied health and family services consulting services for the young families of this community.
